Ciara is a photographer and graphic designer in Syracuse, New York.

Thanks for taking the time to get to know me.

To start with the basics, I have always been a photographer/creative artist at heart and should’ve realized it much earlier in life; obsessing over Pokemon Snap on N64 as a kid, being the “historian” (aka photographer) in many of the extracurricular groups in high school (like the marching band and art guild), and creating, designing and making prints of my Terragen-generated digital landscapes in early 2000s. I started getting more serious about photography in college when I took a B&W film/darkroom printing class.  I should have changed my major, but happily graduated with a BA in Business and Communications from the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio in 2010. After graduation, I continued learning photography on a DSLR, learning how to document my life, family, friends, and groups with my D5000. It wasn’t until my first son was born in 2013, that I realized how little I deeply understood about creating images, using tools, to get photos the way I aspire to… and for the past 7 years I’ve been learning how to take a great photo in literally any circumstance I could find myself in. I continue to have so much to learn.

I like to photograph people who have a romantic heart, hippy soul, warrior spirit, and who have something important to stand for, believe in, or say.

Throughout my life, I’ve been blessed with and have witnessed the strength of women, community, and mentorship, and recognize how fortunate I am. I am a womans’ woman, support black and trans women, and aspire to use my ability as a photographer to give visual power to others. I definitely appreciate men who aspire to harness peace-loving strength.

I care a lot about being involved, integrated and informed about community, local, state and national issues, and it’s my goal to help democratic-minded leaders, candidates, campaigns, and voters to BE SEEN.

On the not-so-flip-side, I love to get photos of families, couples, children, graduating seniors, and models. Once my kids get older and my business grows, I plan to get into wedding photography/films. I love to mingle, dance, eat snacks and drink wine, which makes it pretty easy for me to photograph all kinds of events.

Personally, I’m a little obsessed with Jane Austen, love ballroom and west coast swing dancing, fantasy-fiction literature, and gardens of all kinds. I like to bake cookies, make pancakes on Sunday mornings, and eat anything my husband cooks.

Lastly, I’m a big fan of details, details, details and too much information. If you need someone to care about what you’re doing, I’m your girl.
